Do you remember your last year’s (new) resolution?

Yes, definitely.

Before telling me what your new year’s resolution is to tell me do you even remember your last year’s resolution?

If you do, tell me how far have you been successful in executing the same?

No???

“Oh Please! Don’t be kidding” This must be your reaction now.

And why not…

According to recent research, while 45% of Americans say they usually make New Year’s resolutions, only 8% are actually successful in achieving their goals.

None of us can deny this. Isn’t it?

In fact, each one of us believes that we are enthusiastic during the beginning of the year or during the initial stage of something and are equally notoriously bad at being consistent with them.

Right?

Ah!  Of course.

But wait, I am not here to criticise anyone’s habit or way of handling things.

Rather than that today my motive is to share with you all why usually we fail to be consistent in our work, simply speaking “Why do most of us fail to execute our new years’ resolutions?

  1. Failure to personalise your resolution:
It’s quite easy to be swayed by the resolutions of others or their expectations of you. Do not plan to “learn a new technology” because others are learning it or because others want you to know it. Plan to “learn a certain technology” only if you want to do it for yourself and it appears to be advantageous in the long term.

Let me illustrate with an example from LinkedIn: there are people who become agitated when they read posts from others announcing that they have done so and so course, and then there are those who become charged and customize their path of action. Getting influenced by family, friends or society is quite a common trait.

Before you start making your New Year’s resolutions, be sure your objective is something you truly want to accomplish and that you can relate to. Make your New Year’s resolutions as personal as possible to guarantee that you remain motivated to achieve your objectives.
  2. Not enjoying the process
This point is extremely intertwined with the prior one. Why do just 2% of us truly follow through on our resolutions?

Because we blindly follow the rat race and never bother to look for ourselves, we are unable to personalise our activities, which causes us to become bored or tired after a few days or months. Of course, one cannot maintain consistency unless he or she enjoys the process.

One of the best solutions to this is to start small, say decide to have a website or a portfolio, implement certain technology in a specific department, or train a certain set of employees for a particular task, such as automation. This will allow you as well as your subordinates and employees to enjoy and remain motivated throughout the process.
  3. Failure of keeping track of your progress:
When it comes to any kind of goal, one thing that individuals frequently overlook is the need of keeping track of their progress. You will have a difficult time determining how close or far you are from accomplishing your objective if you do not track the success of your New Year’s resolutions.

Imagine you are learning something and there is no exam for that, how would you know whether you have learned that particular skill or will you be able to apply the same or not.

Or suppose, you are following a GPS without being able to view the destination, time, projected arrival time, elapsed time, or total journey time. You can only see the road ahead of you. This will not only be inconvenient, but it is also demotivating because you have no idea when you will arrive. Hence, keep track of your objectives at all times!

    Lastly,
  4. Inadequate Assistance:
It’s difficult to keep motivated when you’re feeling isolated. What’s the good news? You’re not alone. With just one click our executives will get in touch with you to resolve all your queries related to your venture.
